Meal Program
Inter-American is now a Peanut Free School. For more information download the IAMS Peanut Free Guide.
Developing good eating habits is essential for children. Candy, soda, and junk foods for lunch are not healthy for children and often make it difficult for them to focus on learning activities. Students are encouraged to bring healthy and nutritious meals to school or to purchase meals at school. At IAMS, both breakfast and hot lunch are served in the cafeteria. Food service at IAMS is provided by Chartwells. You can find the updated menus on their website.
Meal costs and hours
Our school has been selected to participate in the Meal and Cash Accountability Program which goals include:
- Improving the accuracy and use of meal participation counts
- Accepting and accounting for prepayments
- Accounting for and tracking of charged meals (meals provided to students without payment)
- Reimbursement for charged meals
- Improved communications between Food Services, lunchroom, school administration and parents/guardian
In an effort to expedite meal service and allow your student more time to enjoy his/her meal period, we are now able to accept payment for meals in advance. You are encouraged to pay for at least 10 meals at a time. This is 2 weeks worth of meals. The prices for the 2011-2012 school year are as follows:
| # of meals | 1 | 10 | 20 |
| Reduced Price | $0.40 | $ 4.00 | $8.00 |
| Full Price | $2.25 | $22.50 | $45.00 |
| Milk Only | $0.35 | $3.50 | $7.00 |
Please enclose payment (cash only) for your student’s meal in an envelope or lunch baggie with a completed meal ticket. Payments can be deposited in the safety deposit box in the Blue Cafeteria.
If your student decides not to eat a school meal for which you have already made payment, a credit will carry to the next unpaid service day.
Breakfast 8:15 am – 8:55 am
Lunch 11:10 am – 12:55 pm.
Salad Bar: Twice a week, IAMS students have the opportunity to choose to build their own salads at lunch, thanks to a grant from Hidden Valley Ranch.
Lunch Applications
Every IAMS student must submit a lunch application for free or reduced lunch. We need all families to submit the lunch application whether you think you qualify or whether your child will be eating lunch at the school or not. For the 2010-2011 school year we received over $100,000 for reading intervention because we had enough families who filled out the lunch applications the previous year and met the criteria to qualify for these federal funds. So, please fill out all of the information and turn the form in to your child’s teacher. Completion of the lunch application does not guarantee any student a free or reduced lunch but failure to complete and return this form can cause the school to lose financial resources.
