Principal's Corner

Welcome to the Principal's Corner, the new space I will have in our website to communicate important information regarding our school. I will use this site to post information about our school during the month. I will post information that will help you learn more about our curriculum and our school-wide culture. As parents and community members have common questions, I will try to post answers to these questions on the principal’s corner. The Principal’s Corner will be a good place to post any updates on important topics that impact all of us such as transportation or the parking lot.

If you would like to see a topic discussed on the Principal’s Corner that I haven’t talked about, feel free to write me a note and put it in your child’s communication folder.

We will continue to send out paper messages when we need to be sure that everyone is getting a message quickly or when there is information that parents need to fill out and return.

Peace and Justice,

Dr. Vallez
Principal

Is that racist or just mean? This week, Ms. Villarreal and I spoke with a group of students about a problem with some students telling jokes or using names that degrade each other based on one's ethnicity or personal characteristics. While we know that our children are learning about their world, we want to be sure that they get feedback about their interactions so that they can fix the problem and get along better.

Professional Development:
Last Friday during dismissal, a 3rd grade student asked me “Why do we have so many Fridays off?” I told her that it takes a lot of work for teachers to be ready to teach in a dual language program and so they are busy learning more and working together on plans for this coming week. She seemed content with that answer as she hurried off to get on the school bus.
