Join us in an evening of world music, dance, food, and art activities. The event will take place at Inter-American Magnet School from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The purpose of Fiesta Cultural has always been twofold—to build pride in Latino heritage, as well as raise funds for IAMS. We believe building pride in our cultures should extend to the families of the students, as well as the community. Accordingly, don’t be shy in telling friends and neighbors about this festive event.
The line-up for this year’s event includes performances from the Chicago Children's Choir, Aztec Dance with Ms. Bravo, IAMS International Folkloric Dance Group, LA OBRA (Bachata), Soul & Duende (Flamenco), Tierra Colombiana, Bloco Máximo (Brazilian), Latin Street Semi-Pro Team, Kid Jungle & Latin Street Kids, Los Cinco Magnificos de La Quebradita. In addition there will be free workshops in the cafeteria related to Bachata, Hip Hop, Spanish theatre, and Afro Latin Percussion. Finally, there will also be children's art and storytelling activities.
Middleschoolers (5th – 8th graders) are specially invited to participate in Fiesta. Students can sign up to be a guest DJ in the cafeteria, be a guest MC in the auditorium, or volunteer to assist at any of the food or raffle tables. For more information about these opportunities or to volunteer, please contact Assistant Principal Ms. Gallo.
There are many ways that you can help to make Fiesta Cultural a success:
1) Volunteer for a Committee: Committees include food, decorations, security/parking, set up and clean up, children’s art activities, and entertainment. If you would like to be a member of a committee, please contact Edna Navarro at ednav7373@aol.com or 773-427-8545. You can also signup to be a volunteer online.
2) Sponsor a Food Table: If you would like to contribute to the fabulous food segment of Fiesta Cultural, but don’t feel you have the culinary skills or the time, please consider sponsoring a food table. Simply download the Food Table Information document or contact Annette Booczko at annette.booczko@comcast.net or 773-531-6828.
3) Sponsorships: Solicit sponsors for Fiesta Cultural by using the Sponsorship Opportunities form. This is a great, inexpensive advertising opportunity for companies. Please return pledges and a copy of the Sponsorship Opportunities form to the FELE mailbox in the IAMS office as soon as you get it.
4) Attending Fiesta Cultural: Mark your calendar and tell your friends. We want as many people as possible to take advantage of this exciting event. It’s a truly unique experience with wonderful music and food.
5) Individual Donor: Donating is an excellent way of showing your appreciation and support of Inter-American Magnet School. Mail your Ticket Purchase and Donation form, with your contribution as directed on the form.
6) Raffle: We will be having a raffle as we did last year. During the week of March 19th each child will receive 10 raffle tickets to sell. The prizes for this year’s raffle include a new iPad, $250 Cash Prize, $150 Cash Prize, a signed Cubs merchandise item, Cubs Rooftop tickets, a restaurant certificate, a salon certificate, certificates for art and dance classes, and possibly more.
The admission fee is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for families. The funds will be used to support Inter-American’s own Curriculum of the Americas and other school initiatives. It is our hope to raise $20,000 again this year. The admission fee will be waived for volunteers and their families.
